The first 5 books are called the laws.
There are over 600 laws!!!
What are laws? They teach us what to do, We all have choices but these law teach us to have wisdom. Between good and evil.
Can someone give us some examples of good and bad things the bibles talks about? Or maybe in everyday life?

(Simplify this for the kids. Quick and easy )

Genesis - The beginning and creations (Genesis answers two big questions “How did God’s relationship with the world begin?” and “Where did the nation of Israel come from?”) Exodus - Redemption (God saves Israel from slavery in Egypt, and then enters into a special relationship with them.)

Leviticus- worship (God gives Israel instructions for how to worship Him.)
Numbers - in the wilderness (Israel fails to trust and obey God, and wanders in the wilderness for 40 years.)

WEEK 9 Books of the Bible

3 Third

The rest of the books in the old testament are all Prophets. Does anyone remember what a prophet is? A prophet is someone who speaks the words of God to the people. Before Jesus came, the people were suffering and they cried out to God. The prophets came to give the people a message from God. Sometimes the message “You have turned away from God. You have been disobedient.” The prophets gave encouragement too. They told the people “God sees your suffering. God is sending someone to save you.”

Now lets go through the new books

Isaiah: God sends Isaiah to warn Israel about future judgment and about a coming king and servant who will “bear the sins of many.”

Jeremiah: God Sends a prophet to warn Israel about the coming Babylonian capturing but the people don’t take the news very well. They were rebellious.

Lamentations: The fall of Jerusalem after the Babylonians attack.

Ezekiel: God chooses a man to speak for Him to Israel to tell them that their ways were wrong and to teach them justice.

Daniel: Daniel becomes a high ranking wise man in the Babylonian and Persian empires. He had visions concerning Israels future.

We are so close to finishing the old testament! Lets go back just a bit to the books of Poetry. Who remembers the books of Poetry. (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs or solomon.)

Job is a looooooong poem telling the story of a man name Job who lost EVERYTHING, but never stopped following God.

Psalms is actually a book of songs that the people of God would have sung when they were gathered together in worship. God gives us creativity – art, music, poetry, and more. The best thing we can do with that creativity is celebrate and worship God.

Proverbs and Ecclesiastes give us wisdom on how to live.

Song of Solomon is a poem about a man and woman who love each other that gives us a picture of how God loves us.

Isaiah talks a lot about the coming Messiah, as do the other prophets. That Messiah is Jesus. He hasn't come yet, but when He does, the world will never be the same.

Isaiah is the first book of prophets.

Go over the last 5 (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel and Daniel)

Activity

Bible Sort and trace. To help them remember those last 5 before moving on

Hosea: Hosea was a Loyal man. He understood the heart of God.

Joel: God sends a plague of locusts to Judge Israel, but his judgment on the surrounding nations is coming, too.

Amos: Amos explained how God uses prophets to explain His work but the people rejected prophets and judgment was coming

Obadiah: Edom had a lot of pride. Obadiah warned them that judgment was coming.

Jonah: A disobedient prophet runs from God, is swallowed by a great fish, and then preaches God’s message to the city of Nineveh.

We have 7 more books left of the old testament! Last time we went over the some of the major prophets. Those were Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel, Than we learned about some of the 12 minor prophets, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, And Jonah. This week we will be going over the last 7.

Does anyone know why they are called major and minor prophets? Its simple. Because the major books are MAJOR, they’re just longer. The minor books are just smaller books. That’s it. Simple. But can anyone remember what prophets are? They just speak on Gods behalf! You’ll see that a lot in these books. God is warning the people that Jesus is coming to rule! These last ones have some funny names. Be ready!Lets get into the last 7. ——————->>>>>>>

Haggai: The people have abandoned the work of restoring God’s temple in Jerusalem, and so Haggai takes them to task.

Zechariah: The prophet Zechariah calls Israel to return to God, and records prophetic visions that show what’s happening behind the scenes.
