Temptation comes from the enemy not God
James 1:12-18
the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy
John 10:10
No matter your age, if you are a new believer or if you have been serving for years, temptation will come and it is our job to resist.
There are many stories in the bible that talk about temptation and we will be looking at:
What happened in the garden with Adam and Eve
What happened with David’s encounter with Bethsheba
What happened while Jesus was in the desert
During this month, we will be talking about Temptation + other words that may be challenging for children. Here are the words + definitions to help children understand:
Temptation- The strong feeling/desire to do something we shouldn’t do
Free Will- God lets us make our own choices, he never forces us
Sin- When you give in and do what you shouldn’t do.
Prayer- Talking with God
Worship-honoring God + showing him how much we love him
Conviction- God telling us we did wrong
Accountability- owns their mistakes and doesn’t blame others or make excuses
Scripture- A weapon to fight against the enemy
Forgiveness- Not forgetting but letting it go and giving it to God
Resist- To take a stand and say NO!
Repent- when you feel sorry + want to do better, you ask for forgiveness + do your best to not do it again
Our main focus is for the kids to learn that everyone faces temptations but we have God on our side to help us say no and fight back
Thursday 1
Pj Night and Games (teacher plan games to play with the class)
Temptation in the Garden
Middles:
Who can tell me what we learned in the month of april? (Allow answers)
That’s right we learned about Jesus and the Resurrection, and how Jesus died and rose again for us! He wants us to stay close to him But to do that we must stay away from the enemy and his evil plans.
Now,This month we are learning about temptation! (dun dun dun)
Does anyone know what Temptation means? (Allow answers + give example)
[Temptation means to have a strong feeling/desire to do something we shouldn’t do] Give students an example.
Let’s read a story in the bible and see what happens. Turn your bible to Genesis 3:1-6 (Encourage the kids to read the rest of ch.3 at home)
Choose 6 students to read a scripture and once everyone is done, then have a teacher reread the passage once more
Questions:
Who was the tempter/trickster? (Allow Answers)
The snake
What were Adam and Eve not allowed to eat? (Allow Answers)
Fruit from the middle of the garden
What did God say would happen if they ate from that tree? (Allow Answers)
They would die
Why do you think the snake tried to make them eat the fruit from that tree? (Allow Answers)
To open their eyes about good and evil things + they would become like God himself.
To be disobedient to God and to make them sin against God.
After the snake told Eve those words, Eve looked at the fruit and Really (REALLY) wanted to eat it but she was not supposed to… what word means to really want to but know you shouldn’t … (Allow Answers)
Temptation!
Recap:
God gave them rules to follow but Eve chose to do something that she wasn’t supposed to and that became sin.
The tricky snake had plans to tempt Eve and if you're not careful you can be like Adam and Eve,and do something you know you shouldn’t do.
God is so Good he gave us scripture to fight back! How many of you want to resist the tricky snake? (Allow Answers)
What are some things we should resist? (Allow Answers)
Lying
Stealing
Gossiping
Using hurtful words
Being rude or mean
Talking back
Giving attitude etc.
Just like our scripture says “Therefore submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you”. James 4:7 (practice the Scripture with the hand movements )
Lesson for Littles:
Read the story of Adam and Eve from the beginner’s bible on page.18 (In the class cabinet)
Tell them how the snake is tricky + God wants us to stay away from the tricky snake(The enemy)
Practice their scripture +Remind them how much God loves them + wants them to make good choices
Activity
“Have you ever” (outside activity approx 5 min long)
Line the kids up like red light green light and have a teacher participate too
Read note cards and if they have ever done it have them take (1-2 steps forward)
Ex: have you ever lied? Take one step forward
When all the notecards are read, remind them that temptation is real, we all go through it and sometimes it becomes sin…. Tell them to resist, to pray and get close to God etc.
The spiral snake (coloring and cutting)

David and his big mistake
Recap:
Who can tell me what we talked about last week? (allow Answers)
Temptation
Adam and eve
Jesus
That’s right, we talked about all of those things….. Now
Adam and Eve had everything that they could ever need and the best thing of all was that they had a real close relationship with god.
God wants us to learn to resist the enemy and repent….
Who remembers what resist means…. (allow answers)
That's right, to say no and run away…..But if we do give in to that temptation, God wants us to come to him and apologize. We call that repentance. (To say to god that we made a mistake and to help us to resist and stay away.)
Middles:
Today, we will learn about king david and his mistake (sin)
read 2 samuel 11 & 12 before teaching this lesson for reference:
Play the video and discuss the questions with the children.
Questions:
Who can tell me the main characters in the story? (allow answers)
David and Bethsheba
What did David do to make God angry with him? (allow answers)
He took another man's wife (he gave into temptation and sinned)
What should David do next? Should He:
Run away as fast as a gingerbread man
go to battle and hide behind a rock
Kill her husband
Pray and Repent
True or false question:
David should kill the husband and become the ultimate king (allow answers)
Allow the children to answer and give them the right answer.
David should have talked with God, resisted the temptation and repented.
talk to them about how when we make big mistakes like David, we should not hide them from our parents or God, but we should own them (accountability) and ask for forgiveness.
Recap:
David reallyyyyyyyy liked bethsheba. She was a beautiful woman that caught his eyes.
He invited her to the palace and made a big mistake. Instead of taking his mistake to God he killed her husband and sinned even more.
He gave into temptation!!!!!
God wants us to have free will (the ability to make our own choices) but when we act like David and make bad choices and keep making them. He gets angry and disappointed
When we make mistakes, like really big mistakes, what should we do? (allow answers)
Once the children are done giving answers. Pray with them and ask God to help them, to forgive them and for the children to be set free from their sin.
Lesson for Littles:
Tell them the story of david and Bethsheba (2 samuel 11 and 12)
Tell that when we make mistakes it's better to tell the truth than keep it a secret or lie.
When we do, Jesus isn't happy + it breaks his heart. Pray with them, ask God to help them tell the truth.
Activity
Middles→
“Operation” -fixing the heart
There will be two big hearts, one with all the ugly temptations that the kids are facing and one that is pure and clean.
Your job as a class is to fix the broken heart with actions that will fix and mend the heart to reflect Jesus (Example: if on the broken heart it says hate, replace it with love)
At the end bring out the second heart and tell them that when we resist temptation, when we get closer to God, when we pray and worship, and we go after God, we begin to reflect him and become more like him
Fruit basket game (inside game with chairs)
Put the chairs in a circle and have them sit down
Give them a fruit to remember (apple, orange, mango)
One student will be in the middle , they will call a fruit and those “fruits have to move spots (they can’t switch next to each other) while the person in the middle tries to get a spot
Keep going and when the person in the middle calls “fruit basket”, everyone has to move spots as fast as they can, continue until parents comeLittles→

Ask kids what are some good choices and some bad choices
Thursday 3
lw kids chefs ( Fruit Kabobs)
Supplies→ variety of fruit, skewers, paper plates , table cloths
Teachers go ahead and wash the fruit and place into cups or bowls,
Have the kids carefully place the fruit onto a skewer in any order they’d like
While the kids eat their masterpiece, talk about a few things:
How we should be giving our bodies healthy and nutritious food often (balance)
when we put too much junk food or sodas and juices in our body, it can hurt us…. It’s ok to eat it now and then or sometimes… but when our tummies say no more and we keep going (that’s temptation, it’s called gluttony…. Where we eat even though we aren’t hungry)
Jesus was tempted in the wilderness
Recap: We are on week 3 of Temptation!! Wow, time has flown by!
Who can tell us what we talked about last sunday? (allow Answers) That’s right we talked about David and Bathsheba and David's big mistake.
Who can tell me what his big mistake was? (allow answers)
Yes, David saw how beautiful Bethsheba was and even though she was married to (uriah), he really wanted to be with her…. AND HE DID….. after his big mistake, he made an even bigger mistake which was killing her husband so that he could marry herWell, this week we are learning about how Jesus was tempted in the wilderness !
Let’s watch the video and see what happens
(Teachers do “lights, camera, action” before playing the video
Video/lesson:
In the case that the video doesn’t play, read to the children Matthew 4:1-11
Watch and discuss video:
Ask the kids question about the video
When you are tempted, we can use scripture like Jesus as our strength to fight against the enemy
Middles:
Lesson for Littles:
Read the passage in the illustrated children’s bible and ask them questions
Talk to kids about how we should try our best to do the right thing even when the little voice says to do things we aren’t supposed to like: sneaking treats, telling a lie, blaming others, etc.
They should be sharing, helping, being kind, listening to our parents or teachers
