Lesson 1
Holy Week Shapes My Identity Lesson:
Holy Week isn’t only what Jesus did
This first Sunday’s lesson is going to look a little different, we are going to go over the Holy Week in one day and explain to the children how this week wasn’t only what Jesus did for us but how it also shapes our identity in Him. Palm Sunday — I am chosen.
Good Friday — I am forgiven.
Easter Sunday — I am alive.
Holy Week doesn’t just tell me what happened. It tells me who I am.
1.Palm Sunday – I Am Chosen
On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem knowing the cross was ahead (Luke 19:28–40). He wasn’t forced. He was obedient. “Not my will, but yours be done.”
(Luke 22:42) Before the cross, there was a choice — and He chose us.
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you.” (John 15:16)
Because He chose obedience, I am chosen. Not random. Not overlooked. Chosen by grace (1 Peter 2:9).
2.Good Friday – I Am Forgiven
On Good Friday, the cross became THE great exchange.
“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree.” (1 Peter 2:24)
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)
My sin was paid.
My shame was carried.
My debt was canceled (Colossians 2:14).
Because of the cross, my past does not define me. I am forgiven.
3.Easter Sunday – I Am Alive
On Easter Sunday, the tomb was empty (Matthew 28:5–6)
“He is not here; He has risen.”
The Resurrection means new life.
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“The same power that raised Jesus now lives in me” (Romans 8:11)
I am not spiritually dead. I am alive in Christ.
