Lesson 1

Getting into Emotions L E S S O N :

This month we will be talking about emotions- they are essential, they reveal the condition of our heart. Our emotions are not just a feeling- they first come in the form of a thought. We have MANY emotions-they are a gift from God for our good and His glory. God created us with the capacity to feel; even Jesus himself experienced joy, compassion but he also felt sorrow, distressed! We cannot know all of God’s thoughts behind creating us with emotions. However, emotions can be a great blessing- God knew this when He made us. Like our bible verse of the day Proverbs 4 : 23 mentions guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. The Spirit works in us to guide our hearts and minds toward things we have to be thankful for, rather than allowing us to focus on pain and disappointment.

Lesson 2

Hannah’s JOY

V E R S E O F T H E M O N T H :

Proverbs 4 : 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

L E S S O N : This month we are talking about emotions- we will go over joy today. God gives us joy in the good times and in the bad times. Did you know that joy is also a fruit of the Holy Spirit? It springs from knowing that God is in control. Knowing that we can put our trust in Him, no matter what we face. Like in the book of 1 Samuel, we learn about Hannah who was a woman who loved God but was very sad because she had no children. She faced a lot of judgment from people, they would make her feel bad for not being able to conceive. She would pray in her intense sadness and she promised God that if He would give her a son, she would dedicate him to His service! And as we know she was able to have a baby who she named Samuel, his name meant “God has heard,” reference to her answered prayer. It reminds us of Psalm 126 : 3 The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy! And sometimes He blesses us with more than we expect. Like in this case- Hannah was blessed with five more babies after Samuel- three sons and two daughters. He has great plans for each of us, let’s rejoice knowing He is for us. Live in joy knowing that nothing is impossible when you put your trust in God..

Lesson 3

Elijah’s FEAR

Q U I C K R E C A P :

A few questions for the kids to refresh their memory. Get a few responses. What did we learn last Sunday? Last week we spoke on the subject of joy. Can anyone tell me about Hannah and Samuel? After years of not being able to carry a baby, she was blessed with a baby- Samuel whose name means “God has heard”.

V E R S E O F T H E M O N T H : Proverbs 4 : 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

L E S S O N : We are continuing our lesson on emotions. Now we will get into fear- we face fears in our lives one way or another. The word of God shows us fear robs us from our joy and hope. It’s a thief and we can’t give it space to destroy our trust in God’s protection and love. Like in 1 Kings 19 we see prophet Elijah despite having great faith, seeing amazing miracles that God had done- he becomes afraid of Queen Jezebel and flees, he goes on to the wilderness. He was so afraid of losing his life that he rather run away and hide. We saw that God first sends an angel to care for him and there God speaks to Elijah in a whisper-a small gentle voice, not getting him in trouble, just a gentle whisper. We can say Elijah felt encouraged and the fear he had fled. This reminds us of bible verse 2 Timothy 1 : 7 God has not given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. He overcame his fear and with a new mission God had instructed him- he went on his way. Remember God is with us even in dark, lonely moments.

Q U E S T I O N S : What does fear do for us? Now seeing how Elijah overcame his fear, how can you overcome your fears? How can we encourage one another when we feel scared?

Mid Week Fun day four

Lesson 4

Jesus righteous ANGER

Q U I C K R E C A P : A few questions for the kids to refresh their memory. Get a few responses. Can someone remember what emotion was talked about last week? Trust. How did Elizabeth trust God, what was she waiting on? She was old, but still longed to have a baby. So did Elizabeth give birth to? Hint: he prepared the way for Jesus Christ. John the Baptist

V E R S E O F T H E M O N T H : Proverbs 4 : 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

L E S S O N : We have been talking about emotions- joy, fear, trust and now we will get into anger. Now the bible warns us to avoid being angry, that uncontrolled anger is sinful, foolish, and leads to destruction. Proverbs 14:17 tells us a person who quickly loses his temper does foolish things. But a person with understanding remains calm. Did you know tho in the bible in book Matthew 21 we see Jesus during Passover week, had entered the Jerusalem Temple. He was furious to find the court of the Gentiles turned the temple into a noisy, corrupt marketplace. He overturned tables of money changers— in other words he threw off everything he didn’t want in his father’s house. Jesus was declaring “My house shall be a house of prayer" but you have made it a "den of thieves", meaning a place where no good people would gather, greedy people like crooks and thieves- they would take advantage of the pilgrims (the people trying to visit the Temple). His anger is justified! Now as for us we don’t face the same challenges Jesus faced- yes, there are times we should make a stand for what is right and just. Let’s remember to not be foolish with our words or our actions- sometimes we can’t undo what is already done.

V I D E O : Jesus Cleanses the Temple play while doing craft

Q U E S T I O N S : What do we think about this story- do you think the people were right to behave like that in the temple? Do you believe Jesus stood for what is right? How can we be bold like Jesus, when we see something is not right? Well let’s say someone broke your favorite toy. What can we do to fix the situation?
