Intro for teachers

Lesson 1

This month we will be learning about prayer.

- Our verse of the month is Romans 12:12 “ Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes. Pray at all times. "

- Who here knows how to pray? So when do you pray- when you are happy, sad, having troubles and struggling or only when you are excited something good is happening?

- Having gratitude is great and all! The word of God says we can pray at all times, not just when we are grateful or full of joy.

- We all love those days! But It’s about inviting him in all our life’s moments in all things.

- Even the heavy ones when we fail to listen- get ourselves in trouble, even in our anger- when we feel no one around us understands us, when we feel sad and low.

- The word of Ephesians says chapter 6 verse18 says: Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers, and ask for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready. Never give up. Always pray for all God’s people.

- He knows what we are facing in our life, but saying it to him in prayer invites him in.

- Remember it mentions pray for all God's people- not just your favorite ones- he says it "ALL of God's people"!

- Maybe we don't have someone that can be there for us when we feel we need it most, people can fail us- but God is always there he is omnipresent.

- Jesus relied on prayer to receive strength and guidance for his ministry. He faced many difficult times with his disciples- and you know what he shared with them? To seek God in a quiet place and pray the Lord’s Prayer.

- Why would you think a quiet place? To give him your undivided attention, it's having privacy with him.

- Do any of you know what that prayer is by the way? The Lord's prayer?

- We find it in Matthew chapter 6 verses 9 through 13 and it reads : " This, then, is how you should pray: " ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

- It is so powerful- 1. it helps worship, 2. seek forgiveness and 3. ask for God's protection, 4. encourages us to live in accordance with God's will.

- So let's remember prayer is our form of communication with him and like our verse of the month pray at all times!

Lesson 2

R e c a p  :What did we learn from last Sunday ? Prayer How & why important is prayer ? Very important! It’s our communication to God

What is the Lord’s Prayer ? Found in Matthew 6

Any one want to try and recite it to us ? Could be tricky, but all efforts are appreciated!

Who taught us this prayer ? Jesus who first showed his disciples

“ Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes. Pray at all times. "

Romans 12:12

- Is there any form of wrong prayer? No, BUT perhaps not having sincere motives (reason for doing something), when approaching God we have to be genuine (truthful) and have a humble (modest) heart.

- There are many forms of prayer- the major ones you find most in the Bible are “ACTS” which stand for: adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication.

- This month we will be learning more about these 4. So today lets talk about adoration. Does anyone know what adoration means?

- It means to have a deep love and respect for someone, like worship.

- When thinking of adoration- admire came to mind how we can admire someone for being nice, being thoughtful, respectful, having all these good qualities about them.

- We SHOULD admire God- for he created everything, his love, compassion, he is the source of all good things.

- On Psalms 104 verse 1 reads praise the Lord, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor (that means magnificent features/qualities) and majesty (has an impressive power, his greatness).

- It is said in the bible all good things come from the Lord- so praise him, he is worthy!

- And yes praise is a form of prayer!

- It's a way of thanking him, which we will go further into it in later time when we get into thanksgiving prayers.

- As we read in Daniel chapter 2 verse 20 “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his.”

- For ever and ever, that means we don't have to skip out on him- every day make the effort to praise him.

- In life there are times when we lack making the right choice- but when we ask him to help us before we make the choice, he makes it work for our good.

- How can we show we adore God? In our prayer we bring it to him, admire him for his love towards us, for all that he is!

- Not only can we pray (standing, sitting, on our knees ..) but we can praise- sing songs to Him- He loves to hear your voices.

Lesson 3

What type of prayer did we just go over ? Adoration

Which means? To have a deep love and respect for someone, like worship.

How can you show your adoration to God? In prayer, praising him, singing to him

Can you adore anyone else in your life like you should God? No

But what about the part of adoration that is "deep love and respect"? Yes, God said love everyone. BUT worship is only for Him and to Him.

Romans 12:12

L E S S O N  :

- Let’s talk about another form of prayer that I know many of us have had to face at some point.

- Any one want to take a guess what C stands for in ACTS? It stands for confession.

- There is no one among us that is perfect, we fall short (meaning we fail to meet expectation)

- Do you know what confession means? It means I acknowledge my sin and I know I need to ask for forgiveness. That can be a prayer!

- Many times we notice we sinned, we KNOW am I right? Like I shouldn't have done that, I shouldn't have been mean, I shouldn't talk to them in a rude manner, shouldn't have lied to my mom etc. We slip!

- But if we don't bring it to prayer- that can be a burden, like weight we carry around. We need to confess it to God.

- Psalms 142 verse 1 reads I cry aloud to the LORD; I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.

- We can acknowledge that we need him, as we lift that prayer onto him.

- When we decided to NOT do the right thing- we lied, we try to cover up our mistakes, just maybe- no one really saw it so we think that we can get away with it!

- Any guesses what I should do? Just let it be? No right.

- In Lamentations chapter 3 verse 41 says let us lift our hearts and our hands to God in heaven.

- Whatever your sin is: God would take it- He will, take it to prayer and with a humble heart ask for His forgiveness. Watch His peace come over you.

- Just like 1 John chapter 1 verse 9 mentions If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

- I am grateful! So should each of you, we have the opportunity to seek his mercy and grace AND he doesn't hold back.

Lesson 4

R E C A P  :

- This month we are learning about prayer, how important it is for us to seek God in all things.

- Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers

- What are prayers of adoration? Giving thanks, praising, out of the deep love and respect we have for him, worshipping him.

- What about prayers of confession? Acknowledging our sins and asking for forgiveness.

- Is there anything we confess that can separate us from him? No, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Romans 12:12

L E S S O N  :

- Let's get into T in ACTS, it stands for thanksgiving.

- What do I mean thanksgiving? Do you think I'm talking about the holiday?

- Tho it is to celebrate gratitude, unity and the blessings of the year- we don't have do it once a year!

- We get to wake up to see another day, there are many things to give him thanks every day.

- As we see in Colossians chapter 3 verse 15 let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

- Ask the kid's what they are thankful for?

-  Doesn't it fill you with peace knowing that you are living in his grace?

- Grace is a gift of undeserved favor from God that cannot be earned. It is God's nature.

- Psalm 28 verse 9 states the Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out songs of thanksgiving.

- In prayer we need to go in with appreciation, like wow he really did this for me. Thank you Lord!

- When you become older it becomes more clear, how he was with us in many ways.

- We look back and be amazed, he stepped in- so how can we not be grateful?

- Continue to practice gratitude throughout the year by reflecting on your blessings daily.

R E C A P  :

- This month we learned about prayer and how it plays one of the most important parts in our lives as Christian's.

- It's the way we can communicate with God, not just our needs- right? Yes

- We went over adoration prayers- giving thanks, praising, out of the deep love and respect we have for him, worshipping him.

- What about acknowledging our sins and asking for forgiveness, what prayers are those? confession

- We talked about thanksgiving- what kind of prayers would those be? thanksgiving prayer is us acknowledging His blessings but we also need to live a life that reflects his teachings.

Ask if anyone knows this months bible verse :

“ Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes. Pray at all times. "

Romans 12:12

L E S S O N :

- Today we are closing off ACTS, the S stands for supplication.

- Can anyone take a guess or know what supplication means?

- Supplication for those that don't know what it means- is an action of asking or begging for something earnestly (sincere, seriously)

- Like when we ask for prayer request as a class, we bring those request before God as a family in christ.

-  As we read in Philippians chapter 4 verse 6 in nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

- Is there anything you ever wanted that perhaps you couldn't get or do on your own, you asked God please make this happen?

- Did he come through for you?

- He comes through for us, if it is according to his will.

- Sometimes supplication can be praying for a loved one to be healed.

- You trust in God's love and provision (action of providing or supplying something)

- They are our petitions (our requests)- He will take charge of them, in His time and in His way- give him glory.
